Mastering NumberEmbedding the Impact Community

This community offers schools that have previously engaged in Mastering Number at Reception and KS1 continued support to embed the programme in their school. It also supports Year 3 teachers to build on pupils’ prior learning by using centrally produced teaching materials to secure pupils’ fluency. Mastering Number atKS2 Work Group

This Work Group enables pupils in Years 4 and 5 to develop fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number that exemplifies good number sense. It is for schools that have participated in a Mastering Number Work Group (at Reception and KS1), and are also in a Sustaining Work Group. Primary Teaching for MasteryDevelopment Work Group

Each Work Group will be led by one of the Maths Hub’s Mastery Specialists and involve six or seven primary schools. Primary Teaching for MasterySustaining Work Group |
The Primary Teaching for Mastery Sustaining Work Group is for all primary schools who have previously participated in a Primary Teaching for Mastery Work Group (TRG), or who are Mastery Specialist schools. The Work Groups provide the opportunity for schools to work beyond their own setting, networking: exchanging practice, and collaborating to support each other to sustain Teaching for Mastery. Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM) Programmes are for individual teachers to develop specialist knowledge to improve their practice. Schools that have a participant in the SKTM programme one year are eligible to apply for another participant the following year. For 2024/25 we will running the following SKTM Programmes:

This programme aims to help teachers in EYFS improve their mathematical subject knowledge alongside developing understanding of age-appropriate pedagogies suitable for Early Years settings. Sessions will have an emphasis on promoting children’s Early Number Sense (a key indicator of later mathematical success). This programme will focus on- The importance of spatial reasoning within the mathematics curriculum, understanding the properties of shapes and developing geometric reasoning, enhancing opportunities for spatial reasoning and considering links between spatial reasoning and number/calculation. This programme is designed to support teaching assistants (TAs) in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support pupils in maths in the classroom. For 2024/25 we will be running 2 face to face cohorts (one in Northamptonshire and one in Leicester & Leicestershire) and a later starting online cohort.
